Frequently Asked Questions
How much food is acceptable for a donation?
There is no minimum as we recognize that any food donation can help.
How much work is required by me?
Our goal is to make this process simple for you. We would ask that you (1) identify a date, time, and food items that can be donated. (2) Schedule a food pick-up by contacting us directly or via our on-line donation calendar. (3) Pack, wrap, label, and set aside the food in your refrigerator/freezer in anticipation of our volunteer to pick it up.
Can I be liable for injury/harm due to the food I donation?
The Bill Emerson Good Samaritan Food Donation Act (Public Law 104-210) provides for civil and criminal liability protection except in cases of gross negligence or intentional misconduct. California Health and Safety Code Section 114433 states that “No food facility that donates food shall be subject to civil or criminal liability or penalty for violation of any laws, regulations, or ordinances…for a violation occurring after the time of donation.”
Who will my donation benefit?
YKSK works with a number of local missions, food pantries, and soup-kitchens in the Southern California area. Your donation will be routed to a location whose operating hours coincide with the day and time of your donation.
